Effects of Yanghyuljanggeungunbo-tang(Yangxuezhuangjinjianbu-tang) and Cervi Cornu Parvum Pharmaco-Acupuncture on the Motor Function Recovery and Nerve Regeneration in Rats Induced Spinal Cord Injury

Abstract
Objectives:
The purpose ofthisstudywasto investigate the effectsofYanghyuljanggeungunbo-tang(Yangxuezhuangjinjianbu-tang)and CerviCornu Parvum pharmaco-acupunctureinSpinalCordInjury(SCI)-inducedrats.

Methods:
The subjectswere divided into 5 groups ;Normal,Controlno treatmentafterSCI,Experimental¥° taken with Yanghyuljanggeungunbo-tang (Yangxuezhuangjinjianbu-tang)500§·/§¸ 0.5§¢ dailyafterinducingSCI.Experimental¥± takenwithCerviCornuParvum pharmaco-acupunctureat Taegye(KI3)andYangnungch?n(GB34)afterinducingSCIandExperimental¥² takenwithYanghyuljanggeungunbo-tang(Yangxuezhuangjinjianbu-tang)500
§·/§¸ 0.5§¢ andCerviCornuParvumpharmaco-acupunctureatKI3andGB34toSCI-inducedrats.Aftereachoperation,thepresentauthorobserved themotorbehaviorrecoveryandnerveregenerationbyanalysisofthemotorbehaviortests,EMG,hematological(AST,ALT,WBC),histologicaland immunologicalchanges.RatsweretestedatmodifiedTarlovtestatthe1st,2nd,3rd,4thday,andMotorbehaviortestat1st,3rd,7th,14th,21stday.

Results:
Resultsareasfollows.
1.AlltheexperimentalgroupswereimprovedcomparedwithcontrolgroupinthemotorbehaviortestsincludingTarlovtest,Basso-Beattle-Bresnahan locomotorratingscale,modifiedinclinedplanetest,openfieldtest,gridwalktestandnarrowbeam test.EspeciallyExperimental¥² wasimproved significantlyamongothergroups.
2.InEMGtest,HwaveappearedweakonlyinExperimental¥².AndMwavewasincreasedsignificantlyinExperimental¥².
3.AlltheexperimentalgroupsweresignificantlydecreasedcomparedwithcontrolgroupinserumAST,serumALTandserum WBCtests.
4.significantlydecreasedinTumorNecrosisFactor-¥á testcomparedwiththefirstdayofSCI.
5.Musclecontractionanddenaturationofalltheexperimentalgroupswereinhibitedinhistologicalobservationsofgastrocnemiusmuscle.Especially,those ofexperimental¥² wasmore effective. 6.NGFandBDNFofspinalcordgraymatterinalltheexperimentalgroupswereincreasedcomparedwithcontrolgroup.Especially,those of experimental¥² wasmoreeffective.

Conclusions:
Asabove,itcanbesuggestedthatYanghyuljanggeungunbo-tang(Yangxuezhuangjinjianbu-tang)andCerviCornuParvum pharmaco-acupuncturemay improvemotorbehavior,EMG,hematological,histologicalandimmunologicalfindingsinSpinalCordInjury(SCI)-inducedrats.Especially,effectswillbe
somewhatbetterincombinationofthesetwotreatments.
